What is AI Question Generation?

AI Question Generation uses advanced language models to create relevant follow-up questions based on what respondents have already answered. Instead of asking pre-defined questions, the AI adapts in real-time to dig deeper into specific topics.

Example:

User says: "I'm frustrated with the checkout process"

AI generates: "What specific part of the checkout process was most frustrating? Was it the payment options, shipping information, or something else?"

When to Use AI Questions

Qualitative Research

How to Add AI Question Nodes

Add AI Question Node

Drag the AI Question Node from the sidebar onto your workflow canvas. Place it after the questions that provide context.

Define Information Goal

Tell the AI what you want to learn. Be specific about the topic or insight you're seeking.

Example: "Understand the specific pain points with our checkout process"

Choose Question Style

Select how AI should ask questions:

  • Open-ended: Free text responses
  • Multiple choice: AI generates options
  • Mixed: Combination of both

Set Question Count

Specify how many follow-up questions AI should generate (1-5 recommended).

Connect & Test

Connect the AI node to your flow and use preview mode to test how it generates questions based on different responses.

Information Goal (Required)

Question Count

Number of follow-up questions to generate. We recommend 2-3 questions for best results.

Tone & Style

Choose the tone for AI questions:

  • • Casual & friendly
  • • Empathetic & supportive
  • • Direct & concise

Context Window

AI uses answers from previous questions as context. You can specify which previous responses to include (all previous, last 3, specific questions).

Best Practices

  • Provide context: Place AI nodes after questions that give the AI relevant information to work with

  • Be specific with goals: Clear information goals lead to better, more focused questions

  • Limit question count: 2-3 AI questions work best. Too many can overwhelm respondents

  • Test thoroughly: Try different response patterns to see how AI adapts

  • Mix with static questions: Combine AI questions with regular questions for a balanced survey
